What is JEE Mains?

The Joint Entrance Exam – Main, commonly known as JEE Main, is one of the important competitive exams that are held in India at the entry-level for getting admissions mainly in the National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), and other colleges known as “centrally funded technical institutes” (CFTIs). Formerly known as the All India Engineering Entrance Examination or AIEEE, this is a yearly organised examination that takes place as a standardised computer-based test held by the National Test Agency. The JEE Mains is held for admissions to all technical undergraduate courses offered by various universities. Passing the JEE Mains also makes an individual eligible for JEE Advance which is the entry-level exam for admission in the Indian Institute of Technology or IIT.

JEE Main is a national-level competitive exam that students appear for usually after completing Class 12. The exams are held every year, mainly for students who opted for streams consisting of Science with Mathematics during classes 11 and 12. It comprises 2 papers with a duration of three hours each. These 2 papers are conducted as an online computer-based test with a syllabus based on Physics, Chemistry, and Maths. Paper – 1 is conducted for admissions to engineering courses like B.E and B.Tech while Paper – 2 is conducted for students interested in the architecture courses like B. Arch and B. Planning.

JEE Mains are now held four times a year according to the latest updates, where the best percentile out of the total attempts is considered for the final rank of each candidate. However, candidates don’t need to attempt the exam all four times. The exam pattern of the examination consists of a total of 300 marks; 100 each for Physics, Chemistry, and Maths. The question paper includes 25 objective types of questions with 5 numerical-based questions in each of the three subjects.

Preparing for JEE Mains

Students appearing for JEE Mains are put under great pressure since the result determines their admissions into the college and the course of their choice. A great deal of stress can be felt by the candidates during their preparation for the exam since their future is dependent upon how well they perform in the examination. JEE Mains is considered tough mainly due to the syllabus since it consists of everything that students study in Physics, Chemistry, and Maths in Classes 11 and 12. The syllabus for the three subjects is already vast in both classes, and combining the study material makes it more enormous for students during their preparation.

There are many students who face difficulty in scoring well in a particular subject out of the three. Often one subject that seems tougher to score good in is Physics. It is not only difficult for students to do well in Physics in the JEE Mains but also in school.
