How to become a Commercial Pilot in India

Choosing a career as a Commercial Pilot is not only a challenging job but also a pleasant one. Piloting has always been known to be one of the most exciting career options and many students want to become pilots from a very young age. A job as a Pilot not only offers high salaries but also exciting experience and exposure. If you are looking for Indian Air Force Jobs in India, this article will help you to know how to become a commercial pilot and join the civil aviation sector in India.

How to become a Pilot in India?

In India, there are two ways to become a pilot;

  • A Commercial Pilot License
  • A Pilot in the Indian Air Force

Civil Aviation License includes licenses like Student Pilot License which can get at 16 years, a private pilot license that can get at 17 years. The final license which permits to fly passenger flights is the Commercial Pilot License – CPL which can get after 18 years of age. The rules for getting the license for Indian Air Force differ from one type of procedure to another.

Who is a Commercial Pilot?

A Commercial Aircraft Pilot Job is a highly-skilled job that flies aircraft or helicopters for Commercial purposes, which includes transportation of passengers or cargo, emergency rescue and aircraft testing. The commercial airlines select at least two persons as pilot crew, i.e. a Captain and the First Officer or Co-Pilot.

Process of becoming a Commercial Pilot

  • Candidate must passed 12th with subjects maths and physics if not covered then clear the same subjects through NIOS (National Institute of Open Schooling).
  • The candidate’s minimum age should be 17 years and the maximum 32 years.
  • Medical fitness for a commercial pilot: candidate should have perfect eyesight, i.e (6/6). no specs are allowed.
  • The candidate should not have any mental illness or a history of mental illness.
  • There will be three rounds conducted by any pilot training institute, which consists of a written examination, aptitude test, and interview. After clearing, the candidate will get a seat in the pilot training institute of choice.
  • Candidates with no previous flying experience will be given CPL training. 15-18 Months duration for this entire course of pilot training. The candidate should complete 200 hrs of flight time to be a commercial pilot.
  • Apply for the DGCA exam, and the candidate must clear it with a 70% to get the CPL (Commercial Pilot License).
  • After CPL you can apply for a pilot job in any Airline.
  • Then the type rating depends on the airline and aircraft based on which type of rating will be given.
  • Get an ATPL (Air Transport Pilot License) for which one needs to have a fly time of 1500 hours.

As the standard of living of the Indian public is rising along with their spending limits, the aviation industry has observed an increase in the number of passengers.
