3 Ways to Bypass Torrent Blocking Effectively

Share

Torrents are under attack at the moment, since they have been linked to illegal activity in the past. However, this doesn’t necessarily have to be the case; torrents can be used to provide access to 100% legal access.

With that being said, the fact is that some internet service providers (ISPs) are blocking torrents. We will cover how to bypass these blocks below.

Use a VPN

With a VPN, your internet connection is masked since it is routed through a third-party server. Your ISP won’t be able to see what you’re doing online when using a VPN. They’ll only be able to see that you are connected to a VPN.

This is one of the most effective methods and doesn’t result in your download speeds being affected too much.

Change Your DNS Server

Some ISPs implement torrent blocking at a DNS level. In order to bypass this blocking, sometimes changing your DNS server helps. There are some popular free DNS servers available such as Google DNS, Open DNS, and Comodo DNS. You can set up your machine with one of these servers by accessing the network settings of your machine.

Use Port 80

Port 80 is used for all HTTP data transfer so it isn’t usually blocked. Setting up your torrenting application to work with port 80 should solve blocking issues in some cases. However, you should know that this port will be slower than other ports.

Use a Seedbox

A seedbox acts as a kind of middleman between you and torrent websites. They let you upload and download torrents. However, data is transferred in the same way that it is with any other website. Since this is the case, they can’t be blocked, since blocking them would mean blocking all websites.

Use the TOR Browser

The TOR browser connects you to the web using a sophisticated network of servers and heavy encryption. This results in your ISP not knowing what you’re doing while online. This means that you will be able to use the TOR browser to access torrents. However, due to the rerouting that takes place, your connection will be slower, so be prepared for your downloads and uploads to take longer.

Use a Proxy Server

You can use a proxy server to bypass torrent blocking. A proxy server is an intermediate server that your internet can be routed through. This masks your activity online and lets you bypass things like torrent blocking.

Use Torrent Relay

Torrent relay is a service that allows you to bypass torrent blocking by accessing content from a torrent through an HTTP address. However, the server is sometimes unavailable or slow due to heavy traffic. It can also be intermittent which isn’t ideal for downloading larger files.

Wrapping Up

With the current climate where ISPs are cracking down on climate, it can be difficult to carry out this activity sometimes. However, there are solutions available for those of you out there who just want access to legitimate torrents. Consider the solutions above and pick the one which suits you best.
