Creating and submitting your online profile to the Express Entry pool is the first step to take if you want to go to Canada as a skilled immigrant.
Once you have created your profile, you will be placed in a pool with other candidates who are eligible for Canada’s immigration program. The Comprehensive Ranking System or CRS will then award you a score and give you a ranking based on various factors. Evaluating these factors from the very beginning of your application is quite important for getting higher scores. In this stage, you may need the professional assistance of an immigration consultant in Canada, who will manage the whole process for you.
If your rank is high and you are one of the top applicants, you will be issued an invitation to apply for permanent residency in Canada.
Since the Express Entry program uses a ranking system, reputable Canada immigration consultants in Dubai say that before and during your application, your goal should be to get a high score immediately. This means you have to aim to get points that will allow you to go beyond the passing marks so that you will have a better chance of getting an Invitation to Apply or ITA to apply for permanent residency faster.
The good news is that the ranking system used in evaluating and awarding points to candidates is dynamic. As such, you can always improve your score throughout the application process and be a step closer to getting an ITA.
If you already have a profile and want to get higher points to increase your ranking, follow the tips below:
1. Aim to get a high overall band score on your IELTS
The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test is one of the most important factors under the CRS. This exam shows your level of proficiency in speaking, reading, writing, and listening in English.
If you didn’t get the best scores on your current test, you could retake it as many times as you can to get higher points. You can earn at least 100 points when you get the top marks.
In case you already know French or want to learn it, polish your skills in this language and take the TEF. You will get more points for this as well.
2. Secure a job offer
Getting a job offer from a Canadian employer will help boost your ranking significantly. Depending on the type of work you will be offered, you can get up to 200 points.
It is best to start applying for jobs in Canada while completing your profile. You can do this online; sign up for job banks or employment sites, and submit your application to vacancies you qualify.
There are hundreds of employers in Canada looking for skilled workers, so your chance of getting a job offer is high.
3. Include your spouse in your application
If you are married or have a common-law partner, you will get higher marks if you mention this in your profile. This is because your spouse or partner’s “core human capital” factors including education, work experience, and language proficiency will help you earn points too.
Use an online immigration point calculator or ask a consultant to do this for you. Calculate your score with and without your partner to see which would be higher or more competitive.
Also, try calculating how many points your spouse’s or partner profile will receive if he or she is the principal applicant. If his or her profile is more competitive, consider letting him or her apply and take the backseat for now.
4. Mention your siblings as well
Forgetting to mention a sibling in Canada is one of the biggest mistakes applicants make when completing their profile. Don’t make this simple and costly error as well.
In case you have a brother or sister who is a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, state this in your profile. You will earn an extra 15 points for doing so.
Immigration experts say that this member of the family does not have to be related to you by blood. They can be your adopted sibling or even a brother or sister in law.
5. Avoid focusing on one factor alone
Finally, the Express Entry CRS considers different factors when awarding points to applicants. These include work experience and skills, educational qualification, and English or French language proficiency.
To boost your ranking, you need to find ways to get high points on all these factors and not only on one or two. This means that even if you have an excellent score on your educational qualification, you can’t assume that this will automatically get you an ITA.
If you want to obtain a higher ranking as fast as possible, look for ways to increase your scores on the other factors. Find out the specific areas used in the ranking system and think about what you can do to get more points on them.
Keep in mind that since you are applying under a ranking system, a small improvement in points in two or three areas can mean a significant boost overall in your goal for getting an ITA. Canada is one of the best nations in the world where you can elevate your career. Ensure your fast and successful immigration into this country by putting careful thought and effort into completing your Express Entry profile.
