Treating Acne for Adult Males

Treating Acne

Almost everyone has acne as teenagers. Even adult men get it. It’s true it can be exasperating. But there are acne treatments for you. Before we get it into that, we are sure you must be wondering what causes acne? There are a few reasons as to why you still get acne even if you are an adult man.

Maybe you are eating the wrong carbs, you must be stressed or maybe you are not using a moisturizer. Most of all, changes in hormonal levels are another big reason for acne. These hormones lead to clogged pores by creating oils and sometimes this allows the bacteria to grow.

These all problems lead to breakouts. Sweating can make the breakouts worse as well. Most often, men have acne on their faces and on their backs. Acne on the face is evidently more visible than acne on the back. Acne is painful and makes shaving strenuous.

Because of all these reasons, acne treatment is a must for all men. Here a few ways to treat acne in adult males:

Skincare routine: Researchers have said that moisturizers can soothe the skin of adult men who have acne. A good moisturizer consists of aloe Vera and witch hazel. These moisturizers depending upon your skin type are always beneficial. It is usually promising to apply the moisturizer twice on your face. You can also consult your dermatologist for a proper skincare routine and a moisturizer that is up to the mark.

Antibiotics: Is your acne moderate? Or is it very severe? Antibiotics are prescribed for adult men having moderate to severe acne, it kills the excess bacteria in the skin and reduces inflammation. Tetracycline and macrolide are the antibiotics used for treating acne. Retinoid can be used along with an antibiotic, usually for a few months of the treatment. In the morning, you can apply the antibiotic and retinoid in the evening. The dosage of the antibiotics will depend upon how long the acne takes to reduce.

Active Ingredients: Adult men can be treated with over-the-counter medications for mild acne. Over-the-counter medications include gels, soaps, pads, creams, lotions, and so forth. These are applied to the skin. You know, which medications are the best for sensitive skin? They are creams and lotions. There are certain creams and soaps that suit a particular skin type such as dry skin, oily skin, and combination skin (combination skin is having oily skin in some areas of your face and dry skin in some other areas of your face). And several of these over-the-counter medications contain several active ingredients. But what are those? Let’s find out. Benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, and resorcinol are some of the active ingredients. Benzoyl peroxide accelerates the replacement of skin by killing bacteria whereas salicylic acid and resorcinol aids in the breakdown of blackheads and whiteheads.

Steroid Injection: This therapy either alone or combined with medications can be used. How is the acne treated with steroid injection? A shot is injected into the acne cyst with small amounts of steroids. You can consult your dermatologist to be treated with steroids like prednisone or dexamethasone, which will reduce the pain, redness, and swelling for a clear face.

Acne is nothing to worry about! With the right kind of acne treatment and the right kind of care, your acne will reduce instantly and you will certainly have cleaned and clear skin.
