Many people are making money through dropshipping these days and the number is still growing. If you’re here reading this article, you may already know what dropshipping is and what a dropshipper does, however, a simple clarification can be helpful.
So if you want to run an online store without having to store inventory, dropshipping is the best business model for you. How? As a dropshipping store, you are going to go between the wholesaler and the customer and sell products. You don’t need to stock goods; all you need to do is to keep an online product catalog. In other words, whenever you have an order you’ll just simply pass it to the supplier.
Here is where knowing a list of Shopify stores enters the party. What we are going to talk about in this article is not about how to start your Shopify dropshipping store. Here we are going to give you the data and statistics you’ll need to shape a good business plan after you decide to start your store.
Using Shopify for dropshipping has been popular for a while now. The number of Shopify dropshipping stores is increasing day by day. We are talking about more than 10% of all Shopify stores and more than 7% of all products out there.
This growth did not happen overnight though. In 2017, these stores used to shape only 5% of the whole Shopify online shopping business and almost 3% of all the available products on Shopify were dropshipping products. In four years, the number has more than doubled. What does it mean? Well, it means that the rise is to be continued. To be a part of this rise, the accurate stats offered in this article can be helpful.
If the numbers mentioned above caught your attention, keep reading. There is more eye-catching information on the way.
Note: Stores that have at least one dropshipped item are considered dropshippers
Since the beginning of the pandemic, people are spending more time at home. They work from home, they study from home, and they shop from home. It feels safer to stay there and receive whatever you need at your door, right?
Due to the new global disease, online businesses have met a noticeable expansion. Dropshipping is not an exception. However, the growth of the Shopify dropshipping business has been rather slight. Dropshipping products have not changed much; the growth has been less than 1%.
Shopify dropshipping stores have grown at a rate of more than 1%. It means that more dropshipping stores are out there since the pandemic started.
In terms of the number of dropshipped products that make a store a dropshipping one, there are 3 variants.
If we consider a store to be a dropshipper in case at least 1 product or 5% of its products are dropshipped, the growth rates of stores with these two variants are almost similar. In the past four years, stores with these two characteristics have had a rise from 5% to more than 10% of all Shopify stores.
Now, if we consider stores with at least 50% of their products dropshipped as dropshippers, the picture changes. Back in 2017, less than 5% of all Shopify stores used to have this characteristic. Today the number is grown to 10%.
What can we get from these variants? It’s simple. If you want to start a dropshipping website, it’s time to do that.
Looking for a dropshipping supplier? You should know that the competition is tough. Oberlo, Printful, Printify, Customcat, Teelaunch, Spocket, Retail Express, Dsers, and many more are fighting for first place in the business.
Among all these rivals, Oberlo is the one with the highest market share, more than 31%. Printful with 25% of the market share takes second place.
There is a close race among the rest. Printify, Customcat, Teelaunch, Spocket, Dsers, and Spod make up 14% of the market share altogether.
Spocket with 1.5% of the market share is way behind Oberlo. However, it is growing.
In the past 4 years, Spocket started from nothing and now it has more than 4% of Oberlo’s Shopify dropshipping stores and more than 7% of Oberlo’s dropshipping products.
Since the pandemic started, the rise of Spocket has been more noticeable. A great part of Spocket’s growth started in 2020 when covid19 took over the world. Good for Spocket!
Printful, Printify, and Spocket share the market with Shopify stores that are dropshipping and using multiple platforms at the same time. For example, more than 6% of Spocket’s market is similar to 0.43% of Printful.
Oberlo and Printful share about 3% of their market. Printful and Printify as the second and third big suppliers, share a big part. More than 22% of Printify and almost 7% of Printful are similar.
Spocket and Printify share a small part of their market as well.
Are you interested to know the average percentage of products sourced from each supplier?
Well, maybe you are not. However, learning more about this stuff can be helpful.
Oberlo: Stores using Oberlo source 81.92% of their products from this supplier.
Printful: Stores using Printful source 79.35% of their products from Printful.
Printify: Printify users source 65.77% of their products from this supplier.
Spocket: About Spocket the number is 63.63%.
It’s no surprise that Clothing products are the most popular among Shopify stores (Source), with more than 20% of the market share, are currently the most popular dropshipped products of Shopify stores. Home & Garden with 14.4% and Jewelry & Watches with 11.9% are the two next popular categories. Fashion Accessories and Health & Beauty with 7.6% share the same place. Other categories such as Food & Beverages, Books, shoes and others, each make up less than 5% of what the consumers are looking for.
So if you take a look at the stats above, it may be easier for you to decide what you want to put for sale on your dropshipping website.
There are many products available on dropshipping platforms. Now it’s time to talk about how each platform is leading in the most popular product section.
First of all, let’s talk about clothing. About ¼ of the products on Oberlo and Spocket are clothing products. Oberlo with 30% of clothing products is our clothing queen! However, most clothing dropshipping stores are using Spocket.
In the Home & Garden category, again Spocket is the number one both in the number of products and stores. The same stat is accurate about Jewelry & Watches which means Spocket has grown ahead Oberlo, Oberlo is in second place and Shopify is the third.
Since 2017, the amount of Clothing products being dropshipped in Shopify stores has increased significantly.
Here are the next few items in order of growth rate: Home & Garden, Jewelry & Watches, Fashion Accessories, Health & Beauty, Food & Beverages, and so on.
Knowing this, you are the one who decides what to sell as a dropshipper.
The best way to determine which Shopify dropshipping store has the best position in the market is by checking the Alexa rank. There is no other set formula to determine which Shopify stores are the most successful and how much money they are making.
Though Alexa ranking is not the best indicator for a store’s success, it does give us an idea of how each dropshipping platform is doing.
Among all 3 platforms we are going to compare, Shopify has the stores with better Alexa ranks. Spocket is second with a slight difference. Finally in third place comes Oberlo.
What is the number of products that dropshipping stores offer for sale on their website? After analyzing it a bit, we found that most dropshippers list between 50-200 products on their website.
Most dropshipping stores with less than 10 products consisting of many one-product stores use Spocket. Furthermore, Spocket has the largest number of stores with 200-1000 products.
62.8% of the dropshipping stores are in the USA (Source), making it the number one country in terms of dropshipping popularity.
UK with 9.1%, Canada with 8%, and Australia with 7.4% of the market share are the next 3 locations with the most Shopify dropshipping stores.
