Eczema is a skin condition that irritates and inflames the skin. Atopic dermatitis is the most common type of eczema. The causes of eczema are unknown yet but genes are thought to play a major role in causing eczema. There are also triggers which play a major role for those living with eczema.

Eczema manifests as a red itchy skin rash that can go away and then reappear. Treatment of eczema is a problem as there is no known cause but it is possible to reduce eczema breakouts. Here are three effective ways that you can keep the breakouts to the minimum.

1. Avoid Triggers

There are many triggers that can cause flare ups of eczema. It is therefore important to know what triggers your eczema and try to avoid those triggers. During diagnosis of eczema your dermatologist may carry out a skin patch test using some of the common triggers to try and identify what your triggers could be.

However, some triggers are very difficult to identify because the symptoms may take time to show after exposure to the trigger. It therefore not always be possible to avoid the triggers but with time if you are careful enough you might just be able to identify all of them.

Some of the common triggers for eczema include the following; hormones, dry skin, stress, climate and sweating, infections, allergens for instance pollen, dust mites, pet dander, mold and dandruff.

Another common trigger are irritants which include products such as shampoo, fragrances, soaps, detergents, household cleaners, antibacterial products, lotions, leather dyes, tattoos, nickel, laundry detergents and so many others.

2. Maintain a Healthy Skin

To keep eczema flare ups on the minimum, it is imperative that you maintain a healthy skin. Maintaining a healthy skin will prevent dry skin which is a major trigger for eczema. Dryness causes the skin to become brittle, scaly, tight and rough, which can lead to a breakout.

It is therefore recommended that you moisturize regularly to maintain a soft and supple smooth. Also with healthy skin you are able fight off bacteria and block out allergens that cause breakouts.

It is therefore important to adopt a good regime that will maintain a healthy skin. Diet is really important in keeping your skin healthy. Ensure that your diet includes lots of fruits and vegetables. You can also use skin cleansers to maintain a clean skin that is free of gunk and bacteria. Ensure that you moisturize regularly to avoid dry skin.

3. Use Natural Home Remedies

There are many natural home remedies that have been shown to be effective at reducing eczema breakouts. While using these natural remedies, timing is very important. The moment you notice that first itch that leads to the breakouts then you should act immediately to ensure that the breakout doesn’t become full blown.

Some of the natural remedies that have been shown to be effective include; primrose oil, oatmeal, coconut oil, sunflower oil, witch hazel, and calendula cream. You can also use acupuncture and relaxation techniques to keep yourself calm and reduce the flare ups as stress a major trigger.
