UPSC Civil Services Guide

Union Public Service Commission is an organization which conducts competitive exams like Civil Services, Combined Defence Services, Combined Medical Services Engineering Services Examination, NDA & NA Examination, Indian Forest Services Examination and other recruitment examinations. Every year a pre-planned calendar is released for UPSC Upcoming Exams to be conducted.

About UPSC-Civil Services Exam

A large pool of applicant appears for the toughest examination, the Indian Civil Services. This competitive exam is organized for the recruitment of the IFS, IPS and IAS. Candidates must clear three stages to join Civil Services i.e. preliminary examination, main examination and interview. The whole process of Civil Services Exam (from notification of the Prelims to the announcement of the final results) takes around one year. The screening test, the preliminary exam is held in the month of May-June. After the declaration of the result in July-August, the main examination is held in October-November. The final face to face interview is in the month of March-April.

UPSC-Civil Services Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification:- The candidate must hold a degree of any of Universities incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University Under Section-3 of the University Grants Commission Act,1956, or possess an equivalent qualification.

Age Limit:- A candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 32 years. The upper age limit is relaxable for the reserved categories.

Physical Standard:- Candidates must be physically fit according to physical standards for admission to Civil Services Examination.

UPSC-Civil Services Online application

For Civil Services Recruitment, candidates are required to apply only online and no other means/ mode of application will be accepted. They have to upload a scanned copy of their photograph, signature, left thumb impression and a handwritten declaration. Candidates must have a valid personal email ID and mobile no. which should be kept active till the completion of this recruitment process.

After applying online, keep an eye on UPSC Admit Cards page to download Civil Services Exam, Admit Card. UPSC releases IAS, IPS, IFS Exam Call Letter approximately 15-20 days prior to the exam.

UPSC Civil Services Selection Procedure

Preliminary Examination:- The Preliminary Examination will consist of two papers of Objective type (multiple choice questions) and carry a maximum of 400 marks in the subjects.

Mains Examinations:- The Main Examination will consist of a written examination and an interview test. The written examination will consist of 9 papers of conventional essay type in the subjects out of which two papers will be of qualifying in nature.

The result of UPSC-Civil Services Exam will be released after completion of each stage of the test. Wishing you good luck for your exam!
