The State of IT Globally

Share

Globally, it is predicted that companies will spend close to $5 trillion on IT during 2019. It’s a massive market and has been growing steadily over the last few years. It’s not surprising. With the advances made in tech and AI, we are relying more and more on computers to perform everyday functions.

It’s an exciting time to be in the IT industry. Let’s face it – companies may be tightening their belts in many areas, but IT isn’t one of these. Companies simply cannot afford to be left behind in the IT stakes.

As you’ll see in the infographic below, there is a lot more to the IT industry than just a bunch of computers.

In this post, we’ll have a closer look at the industry across a variety of sectors.

Information Security and IT

With ransomware and malware attacks reaching unparalleled levels, and with little signs that these numbers will abate soon, companies need to spend money on securing their data.

Automation and IT

It also makes sense for companies to invest more in their IT infrastructure. New software on the market is making it simple to automate repetitive functions. The benefits of automation can be significant. A computer can perform repetitive tasks like matching invoices to payments in seconds and with greater accuracy than most human staff are capable of.

They can work 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and never get bored or tired. What company wouldn’t want to automate tasks where possible when software can perform these faster, more accurately, and for less expense?

Customer Service and IT

Of course, as our society is moving more towards performing most functions online, clients expect companies to be able to keep up. Clients want more self-help options to be available. They don’t want to be constrained to normal business hours if they quickly need an account balance, for example.

Clients are also becoming more demanding when it comes to getting the answers to questions that they might pose. Say, for example, that someone reaches out to your company on social media. With the software available today, it is possible for clients to get instant responses to queries, day or night.

We live in a society where instant gratification is at play. We don’t want to have to wait for anything. Companies that can’t provide instant answers risk being left behind in a world where chatbots can be created quite easily and simply.

Career Options and IT

Skilled personnel should always be able to create a satisfying career in the IT industry. There is a wide range of options here – you could be a programmer, a network administrator, a tech, etc. The list goes on and on.

There is a widely acknowledged shortage of skills in this area, and so your career prospects are excellent if you show a flair for IT.

Overall, the industry is advancing fast. There’s no telling what IT will be capable of in five or ten years, so this is a very exciting time to be involved in the industry.
