5 Stylish Interior Design Ideas for Small Bathrooms

Share

When it comes to bathrooms, you have to do what you can with what you’ve got. Big, luxurious bathrooms are something most of us can only dream about.

While we may not be able to make our bathrooms bigger, we can make them feel stylish, luxurious, and spa-like. Don’t think that just because your bathroom is small, it’s bound to be cramped and ugly. A couple of great design tricks can make any small bathroom look stylish and elegant.

If you’re interested in making over your small bathroom, check out these design ideas.

1. Bright and bold colours

Small places tend to look dark and closed-off. To make your small bathroom seem bigger and brighter, you can use brighter colours – usually white paint with different undertones.

Now, you may be thinking that all white bathrooms may seem a bit too sterile and cold. However, that doesn’t have to be the case. You can give interest to your small bathroom with bold coloured or patterned floor tiles, you can paint your vanity in a bold colour or use accessories with bold colours. Another interesting idea is painting the bathroom ceiling in a bold paint colour.

2. Mirrors and glass

This is a well-known trick if you’re looking to make space seem bigger – mirrors. Mirrors reflect light and can make any room feel brighter, bigger, and better. You can install floor-to-ceiling mirrors, mirrored tiles, or simply a big vanity mirror.

Mirrored medicine cabinets are another great idea, you get additional storage space that will be nicely hidden behind the mirror. These types of cabinets are ideal for small bathrooms.

Another great way to open up your bathroom is glass. Regardless of whether you have a tub or a shower stall, you can install glass panels. You can replace boring shower curtains with glass panels or your walk-in shower can shine bright with frameless glass panels.

3. Bathroom flooring

When it comes to small bathroom flooring your options are endless, from ceramic tiles, vinyl flooring to natural stone flooring. It all comes down to your budget. But since your bathroom is small, it’s very worth spending a bit more to make it look stylish and luxurious.

You can choose to do traditional ceramic tiles. If you prefer these types of tiles in your bathroom, make sure you place them on a diagonal to give the illusion of larger space.

Another option is popular vinyl flooring. While hardwood floors aren’t all that recommended for bathrooms, due to water and humidity, you can still have that hardwood floor look but with a different material. Vinyl is a durable, cost-effective, waterproof, easy-to-maintain material that will give your bathroom the elegant design you’re looking for.

If you’re leaning more towards natural stone flooring, a good trick would be to install stone tiles both on your floor and walls. The same tile look will give your bathroom a seamless look and make it feel bigger. Apart from that, it will make it look spa-like.

4. Wall-mounted taps

Pedastal washbasins are nice and elegant, but they take up space. When you have a small bathroom you’re looking for ways to save space, and one such way is installing wall-mounted taps.

With wall-mounted taps, all your pipework is nice and hidden and it doesn’t take any space. Moreover, it gives you more room for storage. You can use the bathroom vanity completely or you can place shelving underneath the washbasin.

5. Multi-functional furniture

With a limited amount of space, you need clever and creative furniture ideas. Choose furniture that can be multi-functional – the medicine cabinet, for example, you get both storage and a mirror.

Similarly, free-standing furniture can also be a good idea for small bathrooms. Cabinets or shelves that can be moved around are always a good idea.

Another trick is to use vertical space. Space behind your bathroom door is ideal for the back of the door cabinets or hooks to place your towels and bathrobes. Making a small bathroom look stylish may seem like a challenge but it’s not impossible. All you need to know is a couple of design tricks and your bathroom will surely look astonishing.
