Patient Engagement Solutions Strategies for Healthcare Organizations

Share

To simply put it, patient engagement solutions mainly involve engaging patients with their own treatment to further enhance clinical quality, strengthen customer satisfaction, and reduce costs. This blends the expertise, abilities, capacity, and desire of the patient to handle their own treatment with messages intended to encourage healthy behavior. Generally, patients want to be actively engaged in their health decision-making process, and those involved in their health tend to be healthier.

While healthcare workers can do a better job by leveraging their expertise and training, along with evidence-based clinical practices, to create a treatment strategy that they believe can maximize the safety of a patient, none of that will matter if a patient either does not comprehend what he or she needs to do or simply decides not to participate at all with the engagement.

Just as patients can openly follow a strategy to enhance their health, healthcare organizations can also implement strategies to promote the active involvement of patients. Here are some of the key strategies that healthcare institutions can take advantage of:

1. Acknowledge and Understand Patients’ Personal Goals

Among the most essential changes concerning patient care in the last two decades has been the clear departure of patients from a well-known physician who dictates all care, making them shrug or nod passively.

Patients are far more concerned with their own health, particularly the younger generation. When a patient starts to seek health advice from a friend rather than his or her doctor, it signifies that the level of involvement set by the doctor needs to be more active.

Healthcare practitioners will make the most of this approach by engaging patients in establishing their personal health objectives. Patients would be much more likely to pursue the program if they realize they’re working towards a significant goal. The more specific and personal the objectives are, the more likely the patient would engage to pursue the treatment plan.

2. Keep Important Information Accessible

Another transition in the patient engagement solutions industry that has taken place in recent years has been the idea of creating a comprehensive treatment plan. Rather than working in isolation, physicians and care managers should collaborate to ensure that patients receive consistent support and motivation during their healthcare journey. Several companies are now partnering with payers to make use of their money and work towards a common objective.

The electronic medical record (EMR) is the perfect environment for exchanging goals, strategies, support information, and whatever else is required. Having it available at a single place helps physicians around the spectrum to see what the strategy is, track development, and provide a clear and consistent message to the patient. Payers, for instance, may provide extra support to aid patients when it comes to achieving their goals.

3. Make Every Interaction Less Complicated

We all know that healthcare workers love to use jargon and acronyms. But If there is a straightforward way or a less complicated way to explain something, then it would be better to keep the information plain and simple.

This could be appropriate when health practitioners with advanced degrees interact with each other, but not when they clarify the next steps in the patient care plan. In order to ensure universal comprehension, physicians, care managers, and other healthcare professionals should keep in mind that details will need to be more clarified so that the program can be followed by the patient.
