4 Agile Principles Every App Developer Should Use

Share

The Agile manifesto changed the software game in the late nineties. Before this management style was popularized, every software project was a precarious undertaking.

Allowing the teams to self-organize will make everyone feel more comfortable working within the team and more confident when building the final product. Agile principles are a great set of guidelines because they promote efficiency, productivity, and satisfaction at work.

The best teams are the ones who are inclusive, thoughtful, and focused on improvement. The Agile method is great for any app company that wants to guarantee that they finish their software and build successful products. In order to have a great team, companies need a few recommendations on how to hire a mobile app developer that will meet their needs and help them be successful.

While you needn’t follow each principle to the letter, there are at least a few principles every app development team can benefit from:

1. Be willing to change

The agile method is the de-facto management style of the entire software industry. The Agile manifesto was penned some twenty years ago. Still, it persists as the best manual on effective and efficient software management to date.

If you only stick to one Agile principle let it be that change is welcome, even late in development. Waterfall software design is radically inefficient. Cutting features and changing designs based on continual feedback can make a difference for your company.

2. Always put the user first

The Agile manifesto sets a few ground rules for fast and effective team communication. Firstly, it states that all-important information is given face-to-face. No burying crucial updates into mass emails. Secondly, it states that developers and clients should stay in continual contact (i.e. not separated into working silos).

Thirdly, and perhaps most importantly, the Agile manifesto underscores the need to keep in communication with the user. The user should come before the client.

At the end of the day, the Agile management philosophy concentrated on making a superb end product. Regardless of the original vision or whims of the client, the users should get the end product they deserve.

3. Meetings should be short and sweet

While face-to-face meetings are the preferred communication style, managers should not overstay their welcome.

In other words, grant the developers some autonomy and be gentle with their time. Reiterating points and voicing meandering thoughts of distant goals will only prove to lower morale and sink productivity.

4. Keep it simple

Simplicity is key in the Agile method as a complex set of rules or directions can lead to breakdowns in communication and the dreaded scope creep. Keeping things simple does not mean eliminating technological avenues, in fact, it means quite the opposite.

Instead of constantly micromanaging the team members and app developers, managers should instead be focused on clarifying communication and assisting the developers when necessary. By changing the fundamental aspect of the standards of interaction the Agile method creates a better working environment and keeps the project manageable for everyone involved and it also makes lead acquisition an easier process than usual.

Software is the only real measure of progress. Let the team self-organize. Keep improving the goal. The agile principles are a wonderful set of guidelines that detail the perfect environment for successful software development. There are a few key synthesized principles that every app developer should use to create great software every time.

The main principle is to maintain a willingness to change when the circumstances present themselves. If a design proves itself to be out of step with the overall plan for the app then it may be necessary to pivot to stay competitive on the market. Those unwilling to change are the ones who are most likely to fail because the app industry changes faster than almost any other industry.

The Agile method also promotes putting the user first and creating user experiences that mimic the interaction with the app from an outside perspective. This provides the development team with a distinct advantage in creating an identity for the software by thinking like the customer instead of just the developer.

The Agile principles highlight the importance of exchanging important information face to face, vis a vis sit down meetings or one on one talks. The most important facet of the Agile method of development is all about giving your team the freedom and trust to develop software.

  • Thank you for providing these important principles which are also easy to implement. The number of people using mobile is increasing rapidly, and also opportunities for app developers are increasing.

Giving important information face to face is a good point, according to the Agile manifesto. Also putting the user first is very crucial. Thank you.
