7 Car Maintenance Tips

Share

We use our cars to get to work, travel, and move things around. They’re necessary to help us complete our daily tasks quickly and effectively. The majority of drivers develop a strong attachment to their vehicles and desire to go to great lengths to maintain them. Today, we’ll go over 7 car maintenance tips that you should be aware of as a driver. Let’s start!

Consider Tire Tread / Check Tire Pressure

Because our automobiles’ tires are the primary point of contact with the road, keeping them in good condition should be a top priority. When the temperature drops below 7 degrees Celsius, you must switch to winter tires, and vice versa when the temperature rises over 7 degrees Celsius. You can opt for mobile tire change services in Toronto to switch your tires with the help of a technician. The first thing to look for is how much tread they have followed by whether or not they have enough air in them. The initial function of tire tread is to grip the road and guarantee that you have enough traction to stay on it. There’s a possibility of running out of tread, which increases the likelihood of a blowout. The second function of tread is to provide a path for water to flow through.

Remember that tire pressure is another crucial thing to check. It’s essential for overall performance and your safety, proper fuel consumption, and increased lifespan of tires. Consult your manual for the correct amount, and check the pressure at least once a week if possible.

Friction is created as your tires move across the pavement, causing them to wear down. The front tires will typically wear down first, followed by the back tires. Depending on your car, your speed, and the roads, the front and back sets of tires may wear out at different rates. You can increase the life of your tires and save money by rotating them. As a good rule of thumb, tires should be rotated every 3,000 to 5,000 miles.

And don’t forget about having spare tires as you never know what will happen on the road.

Change Oil

Engine oil’s primary function is to lubricate engine parts that are constantly in contact with one another, creating friction. Oil helps to lubricate your engine and prevent overheating which can lead to faster wearing out and other issues. Small metal particles, as well as any debris that has gotten past the oil filter, are picked up by the oil as it passes through your engine. It thickens and darkens as a result, losing its lubricating properties. For your car maintenance, regularly check the oil level in your car. And don’t forget to check the color of the oil. The darker the color the worse as it shows that it’s full of dirt, pollutants, excessive heat, etc. Check your owner’s manual to understand which oil you need to choose and how frequently you change it.

Regularly Check Belts and Hoses

Check belts and hoses every 3000 miles or three months. The air conditioning, cooling, and charging systems of an engine are all dependent on the vehicle’s belts. And the hoses are necessary for directing coolant flow and preventing overheating of the engine. Ensure that belts are correctly mounted and hoses are without leaks. Check your owner’s manual for finding out more information.

Check Brakes

As you know, you need brake pads to stop your car or make it go slower. Brake pads on your car should also be inspected regularly. While driving, pay attention to any braking noises, as well as any vibrating from the brake pedal. If you have any issues, contact a service center right away. You’ll have less stopping power which will pose a significant risk in an emergency. It’s probably time to have your brakes inspected if your car rattles when braking, pulls in one direction or makes noises.

Check Air Filter

Once a year, inspect and change your car’s air filter. Pollutants are prevented from entering your vehicle through the vents by the air filter. Because the air filter plays such a vital role, you should take good care of it. Furthermore, employing an old air filter that has outlived its usefulness might cause serious difficulties with your air conditioning system. Air filters should be replaced every 12 months or 12,000 miles.

Replace Wipers and Light Bulbs

A dirty windshield will make it difficult to see clearly, causing frustration. If not cleaned regularly, they might cause vision problems and, in some cases, accidents. The driver must have a clear vision of the road to drive safely. As you know, windshield wipers clean your windows so that you can see the road. If you don’t clean the windshields, particles will build up and scratch the glass when you use the wipers. At the beginning of each season, inspect your windshield wipers and replace them as needed.

A blown or damaged bulb is a safety risk, so you need to learn how to inspect each bulb in your automobile thoroughly. If you notice that your lights are starting to dim, replace them as soon as possible.

Check Car’s Battery

One of the most critical components for your car’s operation is the battery. The car’s battery is in charge of supplying a significant amount of electrical current to the engine, and other components. Extreme temperatures have an impact on the battery’s function, so testing it regularly will guarantee that it works when you need it to. Corrosion can build on your battery’s terminals. If you don’t maintain them clean, the battery may break or stop working altogether, leaving you stuck. Take it to a mechanic, once you find issues.

These were some of the common tips for you on how to maintain your car, double-check them, and ensure to drive better!
