Customers’ are very important for businesses of all sizes because they are the ultimate rulers to determine the fate of a business. In order to win the trust and loyalty of your customers, it’s a high priority for businesses to keep them satisfied because happy customers’ always show interest in repeat purchases and spread the message about the quality of business products and services to their friends and family members.

However it is not always easy to delight your customers; businesses need to strive hard in order to build and maintain strong, unbreakable customer relationships. This is one of the core factors in running a successful business. Without a robust technology, it’s highly impossible for businesses to maintain strong and healthy customer relationships. If your business is struggling hard to build profitable relationships with existing customers’ then it’s time to think beyond the proverbial box and implement customer relationship management (CRM) solutions in your business.

Importance of CRM

CRM software is not new to business; it was an existing application well known to several businesses. However, the majority of businesses think that a CRM system is only for big enterprises. But, this is not completely true. It is the biggest misconception. CRM solution is for businesses of all sizes, including small and startup companies. Today, the CRM system has undergone a complete makeover and CRM vendors have realized the importance of small and mid-sized companies in the current market world and customized the CRM system according to their needs and requirements.

For small and mid-sized businesses, as well as startup companies, cloud based CRM system is the most affordable option, scalable to new heights, and can integrate third party tools with the existing application. For instance, if your small business is managing a handful of customers, then the CRM solution may not be the top priority. But, it becomes a priority once your small business begins to expand, your customer database increases to thousands and your business operations become complex. During that time, your business needs robust CRM software to manage all your current business operations.

Primarily, CRM solution is all about managing customer interactions and relationships with the company effectively. It is used to collect, record, and organize customer contacts in a structured way. Furthermore, a modern CRM system is efficient in analyzing valuable customer insights such as customer behavior patterns, browsing history, age, gender, social media conversations, past purchases, income status, profession, current customer tastes, interests, preferences, and many more.

Based on this analysis, the CRM system can automatically segment customers’ into meaningful and relevant audience groups, which can allow businesses to approach with more personalized marketing messages and send timely and relevant promotional content to the right customer groups.

How CRM Benefits Marketing, Sales, and Customer Support

The CRM system is also useful for businesses in many different ways and across various departments such as marketing, sales, and customer service teams.

Customer service teams can take high pride from CRM system in resolving customer complaints, issues, and concerns in a faster way developing deep personalized connections with customers’.

Sales and marketing teams can automate mundane and redundant manual administrative tasks and focus more of their valuable time in creating effective marketing strategies and marketing campaigns, devising an efficient sales-winning pitch.

CRM is an invaluable tool for businesses to improve customer relationships, increase business revenue, maximize cross-selling and up-selling opportunities, build better internal communication throughout the organization, identify the most profitable customers of your business, and optimize marketing strategies. Without a CRM system, it’s hard to imagine effective customer-business relationships. Therefore, invest in the right CRM software for increased sales and profits.

Owning a website is one thing but getting it up and high on search results is another thing altogether. It doesn’t usually come on a silver platter. Perhaps you are wondering whether there is a shortcut to boosting traffic on your ecommerce site so that your website can start showing up on the first page of Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs) but the bottom line is it takes hard. And when that happens, there is no greater success on the blogosphere than that of people finding your content at every tap or click. It is a dream of many writers, online merchants and webmasters.

The important questions

The truth is anyone who is still struggling to put their websites on the map for indexing by search engine bots does ask a round of questions. Once you are in for it and really want to succeed, there is no relenting. Whether you are a blogger who wants instant readership and higher conversion rate, an online retail shop owner who hopes to start reaping from purchase check outs or a travel agency site owner whose aim is to have as a many booking as possible via the web during summer, patience plus expert pay.

And I bet your questions are in the range of the following:

  • What does it take to build a reputed and highly ranked website like Lifehacker?
  • What is the best SEO strategy for your content creation?
  • Is white hat better than black hat SEO?
  • How do you make sure your content instantly pops up in search results the moment some of your keywords are typed into search engines by web users?

The questions are endless and you may very well view it as a largely complicated process. So, do you go about looking for advice from experienced bloggers and webmasters to help you get started or it is something you can learn on your own?

Why is traffic important to your website?

Now, everyone who is actively involved in running a website of any nature is focused on how to maximize visits to different web pages. And while this is something you can easily achieve in a matter of days through content sharing across different platforms such as social media, the question is, do you know how to increase your website traffic through SEO? You don’t want to get penalizing for violating SEO practises. That may just take you back to the drawing board and start all over again from scratch.

In this post, I take you through a comprehensive guide to help you craft content that is friendly to web crawlers in the context of SEO.

Meta Tags, Meta Descriptions and Header tags for SEO

Visible content should be optimized for easy crawling by search bots. However, this is not going to happen like magic. Your understanding of how to use Meta tags and descriptions is what will help put your site on the visibility radar so that it can be easily indexed by search engines. The trick here is to use at least a keyword when describing your website and also do the same for title tags.

Apart from this, readers like simplified content and so do search engines that find such easy to index. When you make the most out of heading tags such as H1 for post titles, H2 for substitutes and others like H3; it makes it easy for search bots to scan your content pretty fast as opposed to a case of unformatted texts.

Image Elements for SEO

Inexperienced bloggers do not understand the significance of images when it comes to content optimization. You want to enhance organic reach for higher web ranking and correct use of images can help a great deal. This is not just about attaching images to every post you publish but using alt tags that describe images, otherwise known as text snippets. The magic wand here is to include keywords in the alt tags of your images.

What’s more about this aspect of SEO is that images and graphics that take too long to load negatively affect your website’s ranking because they drive away readers. No wants to sit in front of their computers waiting for hours on end for an image to load. This once again, points at the significant of image text snippets.

Share your content

Posting blog content on different social media platforms has become an almost conscious thing. It happens like a reflex. But the question is; are you doing the right thing? It has been proven that social media helps optimize web content because if you have a social media page, it equally gets indexed for display on Search results.

This ultimately increases your page visits. The right thing to do is to create say a Facebook page, LinkedIn, Instagram or anywhere where you can post your content for subscribers.

Keywords Magic

Websites like Search Engine Land can help you get started with this. The era of stuffing content with keywords for SEO purposes is long gone and you might just get penalized by Google if you cross the red line. Keywords still work and of course immensely. When creating a website, it is imperative to have a search phrase in mind and how it compared with those used by your competitors is a matter of research to determine its value.

Backlinking and Quality of content

Outbound and inbound links are important SEO strategies. However, this should not be overdone. It is better to get donor links from a few highly ranked sites that jam your website with links from lowly ranked websites. It is imperative to note that other sites with greatly optimized content will only link to quality websites and vice versa. At the end of it all, you be a happy blogger when you see your content indexed alongside other websites.

In summary, Content Optimization can be a simple or a complicated task depending on how you look at it. The tips explored in this post and many other ways of enhancing your website rank should be able to get things started.

Search Engine Optimization is a crazy maze. Just when you thought you have cracked the code of getting ranked in first pole position on the first page, Google rolls out an update and you vanish from your prestigious position.

Before you pull your hair apart wondering what happened, read about this study SEO studies that top SEO experts like Backlinko, SearchMetrics and SEO PowerSuite have put together.

Their studies have found some amazing insights about the most important ranking factors that no SEO professional can ignore.

The studies have identified 4 major ranking signals:

  1. Content
  2. Backlinks
  3. Mobile Responsiveness
  4. Other Miscellaneous Factors

#1 Content

The whole search engine ranking system banks on content, primarily written content. In the initial days, marketers relied extensively on keyword-focused content to win traffic from users who were searching for related search phrases.

But, that led to a culture of stuffing content with too much of keywords, often to the limit that they happen to be spammy. However, in the recent years, Google has tweaked its algorithm to give more impetus to authentic content than keyword-focused content.

This is asserted by the fact that SearchMetrics study which found that there is an increasing trend towards a content-based search results than one that is keyword-centric.

Content that covers a topic extensively, like with all imaginable information that a new user would want to know wins the pole position in search engine ranking.

Vital takeaways from the study:

Relevant content is the best way to secure high search engine rankings. To fix your content:

  • Do a content audit and enrich content pieces with relevant information
  • Improve your subject matter expertise to create more authentic content
  • Diversify your content range by exploring related topics that users will be interested in

#2 Backlinks

For a website, backlinks are like personal recommendations from your near and dear. The more number of backlinks a website, the more relevance it was given in search engine ranking. Or rather, that is how it used to be.

Google’s algorithm changes found that marketers were using bad links or spammy links to boost search engine ranking. This spam link building does not serve any purpose to the end user who comes with the pure intention to explore content.

Hence, Google’s algorithm now follows a method where it reads the content and matches the backlink to the anchor text to decide whether the content and the provided backlink is relevant to deserve search engine ranking. Ultimately, three things matter in backlinks today: the count of backlinks, link diversity and link authority.

#3 Mobile Responsiveness

The world has one mobile-first. Google has also aligned its search algorithm to run along with the world’s preferences. Google started putting mobile-first indexing ahead of desktop versions in 2016.

The study by SearchMetrics has found that all the top 100 most visible domains are mobile-responsive. Google has also confirmed in its Webmasters blog that more than 85% of all websites now meet the mobile-friendliness ranking signal of Google.

Now there is one thing you need to bear in mind before launching your website’s mobile version. The mobile version must be tested for proper working before it goes live for Google’s bots to crawl. Once it is live and the bots detect some faulty with the mobile-version, chances are that it would end up hurting your search ranking more than winning you a higher position. The bottomline is, Google will never direct a user to a faulty or broken website, be it a mobile or desktop version.

#4 Other Miscellaneous Factors

Apart from the three major ranking signals that the studies have found, there are some more miscellaneous factors which put together matter a lot to search engine ranking.

The broad factors include:

  • Security
  • Use of H1 & H2 titles
  • Matching anchor text
  • Unethical use of interstitial pop-ups

Security: Google hinted at moving towards a more secure web environment in 2014. It was confirmed in the 2014 I/O conference that websites having encryption security, that is ‘HTTPS://’ websites will rank better than ‘HTTP://’ websites. You need to Buy an SSL certificate and install to make your website secure and encrypted.

Use of H1 & H2 titles: It is hard to find a landing page that does not use a H1 and H2 title tag. Proper use of title tags give the page a structure which makes it easy for the user to consume content. A user-friendly website translates into a highly ranking website.

Matching anchor text: Use of a matching anchor text for inserting links can boost rankings. But, there is an associated downside too. Inserting spammy or irrelevant links can do damage to your search ranking. An ideal thing to do will be to use suitable anchor text that matches with the backlink which is natural and organic.

Unethical use of interstitial pop-ups

Interstitial pop-ups refer to irrelevant and spammy CTAs, links or pop-ups that redirect the user to another page. The page to which they are redirected could be to convert the user into a customer by asking for payment, upgrade, etc. This form of interstitial pop-ups can negatively impact your search engine ranking. However, necessary interstitial pop-ups like age verification, captcha verification or similar banners that are easy to dismiss will not impact search engine rankings.

Conclusion

Google is on a mission to keep SEO as a constantly evolving and growing marketing medium. The spotlight is always on the user who wants access to relevant information quickly.

Marketers need to have a constant pulse of Google’s algorithm and how it changes to shape to best fit and serve these customer needs. So far, we have discussed the most critical study findings in SEO from some of the known subject-matter experts in SEO.

Put your users first. Keywords are not longer the focal point of a SEO strategy. Web elements like H1 and H2 titles go a long way in winning search engine rankings. Mobile is the future and it has arrived. These are the major findings of the experts in a nutshell. Integrate their findings and their suggestions into your SEO strategy and your rankings are sure to climb to the much sought after pole position.

Exercising your creative instincts can benefit you in many ways. Besides, being a fun activity, it also beneficial for your health as well. Incorporate the new technologies like apps, gadgets and techniques are deep rooted in your creativity. There are many ways that you can use modern technologies and media to get you introduced to your creative side. Here are a few ways that you can use technology and explore your creative instincts.

Connect With Other Individuals:

You can see in movies and shows that picturize creative people as quite, tortured and deprived individuals. These guys struggle for survival like anything. That’s not how it is in the real world. Creativity is something that you can cultivate by collaborating. You can mingle with other individuals sharing your common interests and learn new things. The world of social media is a world of the most diversified knowledge present on the planet yet. One can connect over a suitable platform and get information and get connected to individuals who share same interests as yours. From Arts, movies, photography, music or any other field interests you, there are tons of people that you can connect with. You can learn new concepts and techniques and get inspired with the work of others, create your own and get feedback on it.

Learn New Things And Concepts In Photography:

I have a bunch of amateur level photographs that I took during my college days. I summed up all the collection and concluded that I can do more with them by learning. Smartphones today has immense effect that make people take some amazing pictures. According to a raw estimate, more than 1 trillion digital photos got captured in the previous year. This means that apart from being a hobby, this can become one of the best professions as well. All you need to do is get your techniques and a few concepts to straighten up. Another good aspect is that all this information is available on the cyberspace as tutorials and other material. This is not only fun, it is also a profitable for the one trying out his/her luck as well.

Embracing Learning As A Continuous Process:

I have been writing for a long time now. When your skill is a reality, there comes a time that you end up surrounded in a writer’s block. You become numbed out. There is a constant battle of thoughts raging in your head. This is not a problem. You can combat such thoughts and make them your strength in an instant. All this is possible if you don’t quit learning. This will help your creativity never to fade out and your skill to sharpen out. To do this, you can do a lot of things. For years, it has been my practice that I keep my mind open for new things. I learn through my surroundings, people, podcasts, magazines and much much more. You can use frontier internet service and explore a vast reserve of internet resources that can help you understand a lot of things happening around you. Not only will this help you get some useful knowledge by this practice but more. You get a whole new perception about things that happen around you. This shift in your perception and way of thinking gets you more than one way to solve problems and conflicts. Moreover, it helps you have a holistic approach and a creative way to solve problems.

Using Books, Videos and Other Aid To Get More Knowledge:

There are a lot of secrets hidden in books and other Audio/Visual Aides that we have in our homes. This media has gone to a whole new level. People have created apps and gadgets that help you unravel the mysteries of life and give you knowledge adding more to your creativity. For instance, people learnt to make things easier for themselves when they learnt about the creation of the wheel. This gave birth to machines that used to run on steam and moving further on, used fuel to help us commute from one destination to another. Furthermore, more knowledge added more to the creative aspect and now we have cars and vehicles that run on electricity. In short, learning about the past through different learning devices and gadgets add more to your creativity.

Always keep in mind that creativity doesn’t have to be something confined to a particular field. You can use your creativity to make a new way of sewing cloth and a revolutionary concept of clothing by using a little creativity in your work. I have never seen any human being doing something good or bad, who is not creative. A person who is mending a shoe or is sitting in a furnished office signing a million-dollar check has creativity in their own field and area of specialization.

Branding in itself is a huge and pretty intense subject. And with the social media bragging in, the branding and marketing domain has become even more hyped and tricky. Now a product or a brand can enjoy the global presence and engage & interact with clients even from overseas. But with such great advantage comes enormous pressure, as your every move, every inch of activity is viewed by spectators, competitors and most importantly your customers.

Committing a mistake or taking a move that you thought would work but instead backfired have a different impact on a startup than over well-established business. Well, this bias nature is due to factors like years of market presence, goodwill, customer loyalty, and similar elements that a startup still has to earn. Therefore, it becomes important to measure every move and portray best of what you have got.

Here are major branding mistakes that have the potential to sink your startup, watch out!

Not Filtering and Constantly Trying Fit In

New in the business, with limited resources, workforce, budget, space, contacts and much more. A startup has a lot to figure out before it becomes a well-recognised entity. One primary process that a startup should never skip is that of filtration. It is a significant part of the pre-branding phase wherein decisions are made about the target audience.

Trying to fit in everywhere is just not possible, especially for a startup. It’s best to first focus on the most suited audience that would best relate to your product and then over the period as your brand becomes recognised think about expanding the customer base.

Not Socialising Enough on Social Media Platforms

Socialising is the key to any business success, and with the advent of new age digital channel, you can engage with thousands of people at once. And the best part is it’s cheap and does not require much technical know-how. Young brains are very well aware of these pros, but what they don’t know is that it’s not just about having a brand page on various social media channels but to actively post content over them.

Try and post beautiful images following your brand identity and inform people about your services. Take help of free designing tools like Canva to create engaging posts each time.

Also, increase your presence by running promotional campaigns frequently and participation in social media conversations.

Underestimating the Power of Analytics

Being on the social media is one thing but evaluating your page performance and acting upon it can take your efforts to an entirely different level. Many startups believe that posting regularly and replying to comments is the only thing that matters. Ask any digital marketing expert, and they’ll tell you the importance of analytics.

With the help of analytic tools, you come to know about the kind of posts that are working over the other. They’ll also help you alter your content marketing bringing greater visibility.

Misunderstanding Consistency with Look-Alikeness

A brand needs to create an image for itself that the audience can recognise with a flick of an eye. This can be done by following the brand’s design philosophy in each of your offline and online presence. Startups sometimes in the creative and innovative process forget to do so.

For eg, a single color can have n number of shades. Talking about branding, everything that represents your brand must have the exact same color. Even a small difference can make customers lose trust in you. To find out the exact color, go to imagecolorpicker.com. Here you can easily get the HEX code of any color. Now all that you have to do is to copy and paste this HEX color code to match your color shades.

Similarly, although a small image, Logo can say a lot about consistency. Your logo is central visual identifiable element that helps customers remember you. There are various online logo maker tools like Canva, Photoshop, etc using which you can design a neat logo. Once it is done, make sure to place it across all your brand identity elements no matter on image or in email. Also, ensure your logo is scalable as per the placement, a distorted or stretched logo never looks good.

Be it your social media posts, logo, packaging, advertisement, mobile application or website, all should maintain the brand consistency factor. In return for your effort, you’ll create a brand identity that’s easily recognisable as the yellow and red combination reminds us of Mcdonalds.

Taking ‘too-much’ Inspiration from Competitors

Before creating a website, mobile app, or even packaging it’s a norm to do a bit research and competitors analysis. It is done to check what’s in trend and liked by customers. However, in the process, many startups end up  copying their competitors. Doing so severely hampers your image, no matter how better or innovative your product is, as the first impression (the duplication) was a big spoiler for your brand.

So, take inspiration, note down the essentials and then work things out in a unique way.

Conclusion

It’s a harsh reality that startups need to be more cautious about what they are doing or plan to do. As even a small wrong step can ruin their future, which is not the case with big established enterprises. Do remember to put your customer first, address their queries and complaints on priority as only then you can win the long-term race.

Easy to use tools that’ll simplify your daily work, find your prospects faster for you, improve your reply rates, and gain you valuable extra hours in a day!

Generating more sales for the business is the need of the hour for every marketer. And, bwhat’s the best way to generate more sales? Well, you guess that right! You need to find your targeted prospects, without losing valuable hours of your day.

And to help do that, there are sales prospecting tools.

What do these tools do?

Well, prospecting tools bring automation, giving you extra time that human behavior can’t imitate. These tools help you find your prospects faster and remove all those manual tasks for your sales reps.

Also, they can also increase revenue for your business. Removing non-sales generating activities such as data entry and other related manual tasks can boost your company’s revenue by almost 42.85%.

Here are top 15 sales prospecting tools that’ll simplify your day and help you get more in less time (with less stress):

1. AnyReach

Do you want to find everything that is hosted on a domain (your competitor’s site)? Well, if you do, try using AnyReach to find all email addresses of a domain.

How does AnyReach work?

You enter a URL (probably your competitor’s) and hit the “Submit” button, and within seconds, this sales prospect finding tool will start to crawl through the website and list all the email addresses (and phone numbers) associated with it.

And for small businesses, it’s like an answer to their prayers, because it’s limited to crawling only 50 pages per URL.

In addition to finding prospect’s email addresses, AnyReach can also find PDFs, documents, and spreadsheets hosted on that domain for you.

2. Headreach

Headreach is another handy tool to find your prospects either by their name, website, company or even by using their ‘advanced search’ feature to search your prospects by their job title (very useful for CEOs).

Once you have a list of prospects, hit the “find (prospect)’s email and social profiles,” and within seconds, they’ll all be inserted into your contacts.

Your searches are saved as a log file so that you can access them anytime later.

3. Elucify

Elucify is another useful sales prospecting tool (a crowdsourced database) for discovering your prospect’s contact information.

Just by opening an account with Elucify will give you instant access to over 200k company profiles and emails.

Joining Elucify is easy, too. Just make sure you have an email that is not associated with ‘standard email’ accounts, (such as “@yahoo.com,” “@gmail.com,” or “@hotmail.com,” etc.). Instead, use an email that is linked to your business domain (such as, “sales@yourdomain.com,”).

4. Yesware Templates

Don’t like to write an email? Want to use a template (copy paste content) from somewhere and send it to your prospect?

Yesware can help!

Installing Yesware is easy, too. You just need an account with Google or Outlook. If you already have an account, you can easily install Yesware there and start sending emails faster to your prospects.

With Yesware email writing templates,  you can also:

  • Make your message personal
  • Reduce the risk of making spelling and grammatical errors, as everything’s has already been typed for you.
  • And, easily and quickly use company-approved messages faster

5. VoilaNorbert

Do you want an email address of a particular person in an organization to whom you want to make a sale eventually? If you do, here’s the good news: there are plenty of hacks to find a single prospect to make a sale. But, Norbert makes it easy, painless, and much faster.

For bulk prospecting, however, Norbet is not a useful tool (and they have a limitation on the number of searches you can perform per day).

But for a ‘targeted outbound prospecting,’ Norbert might be just the right tool for you. The interface is simple, and you can find your prospect quickly – exactly what busy marketers need today.

6. Calendy

Calendy integrates with your calendar, and sends a quick notice of your availability to your prospect, and keeps track of any changes so that your prospect schedules for a meeting or a call at a still-available time.

7. FindThat.Email

There’s no other tool in the market currently that finds email by Ahrefs like FindThat.

Compared to other tools, FindThat is famous for having the highest delivery rate – displaying you over 90% of email addresses it searches for you.

It has a massive database of over 100+ million validated emails. With FindThat, you can save prospects to your list. To make everything easier, you can also plug a Chrome extension and find your prospects right from the comfort of your browser.

8. EmailHunter

Just like AnyReach, EmailHunter searches email addresses of your prospects for any given domain address, and list them all to you.

But unlike AnyReach, EmailHunter is much more reliable.

We highly recommended EmailHunter. If you want to grab lots of emails connected with any website address, you should try EmailHunter today.

9. GetProspect

We know it’s unhealthy. But we all compare our lives to those of our friends from time to time. We think about our relationships, our social lives, our homes and our careers. And try to find the places where we’re outstripping the rest. Or worry about the areas where we’re falling short.

If you’ve fallen in to the trap of feeling that all your friends have rocking careers but you don’t, here’s what you need to do:

Remember that Appearances Can Be Deceptive

Everyone has a friend who likes to talk nonstop about all the great things happening in their life but then barely mentions the things that aren’t going quite to plan. You only have to glance at social media to see this kind of lifestyle air-brushing going on every day. When you look at a friend’s career from afar, you might not be getting the whole picture and therefore any comparison is completely pointless.

Remember that Everyone Has Different Priorities

So your friend just got a huge pay rise and now earns way more than you? Maybe their primary focus is their work. And yours is your amazing relationship or your children or your free time hobby or an excellent work-life balance. What you do for a day job doesn’t have to define you. Everyone has different priorities. If your friend’s priority is work, it’s only fair that they’re rewarded appropriately. Embrace and own your personal priorities and you’re much less likely to get hung up on where everyone else is up to.

Boost Your Confidence

When you want to progress in your career, you need confidence – confidence in your skills, your knowledge and your ability to thrive at the next level. If you’re constantly comparing yourself to others you’re unlikely to be feeling great about yourself. Instead of focusing on your failings, try to remind yourself of your successes every day. Big or little – celebrate all those times when you’ve done good. You’ll approach your work or that exciting job interview with renewed self-assurance.

Don’t Let It Ruin Your Friendships

Being bitter about your friends’ successes is a sure fire way to shrink your social circle. As a friend, you should be able to support and celebrate your friends in the way you’d like them to do for you. And who knows? They may be able to put in a good word for you at their company. Or tap into their network of contacts. Or just get a few career top tips. Pull together and one success could lead to others within your friendship group.

Focus on Your Own Career

If there really isn’t any reason why your career should be heading for the skies, ask yourself why you’re not there yet. By focusing on your own career, rather than those of your friends, you can work towards a better career future. Maybe you need to move to a company where progression is better available. Or push for a pay rise and more responsibility where you are. Or change careers entirely. Whatever you do, set realistic career goals and develop plans to attain them. Being proactive rather than bemoaning your lack of opportunity is the only way to improve your career prospects.

When everyone’s career seems to be flying and yours is still very much on the ground, the worst thing you can do is feel dejected. You need to stay proactive and confident in order to reach your career goals. Or, alternatively, be true to yourself in discovering that there’s so much more to you and your life than just your job title.

We use apps in our everyday life. We listen to music, take photos, talk to our friends, play games, check our mail. One by one or all at the same time.

Some of us spend up to 20% of their time looking at small blue screens of their smartphones. There is no sign of losing interest in mobile apps. Moreover, the mobile applications market seems to be growing. More and more people are interested in making their apps for business or entertainment purpose. Is it still that expensive to create an app or affordable to any student? Let’s explain what are the main factors that influence the price and what the average price for app development can be.

Distribution of time spent on mobile apps in the United States in June 2017, by category

Distribution of time spent on mobile apps

This statistic gives information distribution of time spent on mobile apps in the United States in June 2017, sorted by category.
As of that month, 20 percent of U.S. mobile app usage time was spent on social networking. Music including streaming services such as Pandora or Spotify accounted for 18 percent of mobile app usage time

What’s The Total Please

Even though there is a simple formula to count the app cost: features x time x hourly rate = cost, there is no simple answer to this question due to the different actors that influence the total cost of app development. Relatively, these factors can be classified in the following way:

  • Application type (Social networking, business, lifestyle, games
  • Target platforms (iOS, Android, Windows Phone. Smartphones, tablets, etc.)
  • Functionality
  • Design (Basic, custom)
  • Development (individual or a team, location)

Let’s take a closer look at each of the above-mentioned factors one by one.

Application Type

If you are dreaming to take after someone’s success and build the second Facebook or Instagram, bare in mind long years of support and updates since its initial development and first released version. When developing social networking app, be prepared that it might appear to be more complicated than you expected. Even if it seems you need basic functionality, the further development strategy of such apps is still similar, so be ready to add more functionality in future. The more complex app, the more money it costs.

Games can be both complex and simple. There can be virtual reality and heavy graphics as well as basic functionality and simple design. Games are known to be the most profitable among apps. If your game contains 3D graphics and complex physics, its development will cost you much. However, the game complexity has nothing to do with its profitability. Remember, the Flappy Bird success? It was simple, yet very addictive and viral.

Target Platforms

What is your target platform? Do you plan to develop an app for iOS only or it should cover all market leaders including tablets variants? The more does not mean the better. Define your target audience and make an app for one chosen platform.
If you think cross-platform development can save your money, you are wrong. As in a long run perspective, cross-platform development would cost you the same price as if you developed two separate apps at start. Hybrid development can be useful for small and medium apps. However, they cannot provide native user experience and good access to API. So, a good strategy would be moving from simple to complex than trying to embrace as much as possible. Native development is good for both simple and complex apps.

Functionality

The price depends upon the level complexity of the app. The more features, the more time and thus expenses the development would take. Generally, apps can be divided into simple, medium and complex.

Simple app

  • Basic features
  • Simple app UI components
  • No API integration
  • No backend
  • Takes up to 400 hours

Moderate app

  • Custom UI features
  • Back-end server.
  • API integration
  • Payment integration
  • Headsets and tablets adaptation
  • Takes 500 – 700 hours

Complex app

  • Advanced UX/UI, complex design
  • Custom animations
  • Backend
  • Multi-language support
  • Takes 800+ hours

Don’t be fooled by the false simplicity of your idea. Even if you list relatively simple features, for the developer they might mean long hours for implementation. An app that requires a back-end server or an APIs integration can differ drastically.

Design

Design

The design is not only a plain visual component of your app. It is not the way your app looks; it is the way it works. When it comes to design there are three main factors to take into account:

  • Visual aspect
  • UX
  • Branding: icon & logo

The visual aspect is an inherent part of the app, something that you think of first when you hear the app name. Combined with the right UX it can become a part of users’ everyday life.

Do you remember that famous Instagram logo? A brown camera with a characteristic rainbow in the top-left corner. The most recognizable indicative icon that everybody identified with as Instagram. Do you know that it was not the first variant of the app logo?

Previously the logo looked more like a real camera, but soon it was changed with the one we all know very well. Would Instagram become Instagram without its outstanding logo, we don’t know. Thus, we cannot neglect the fact that appealing visual effect is the first thing your users can fall in love with. In combination with functionality and ability to solve users’ problems your app will succeed.

Development

When you come closer to choosing a developer for your app, there are two possible ways to do it:

  • Freelancer
  • Development team

Each approach has its pros and cons, and it is only up to you to decide. The cheapest variant which you can get is working with freelance (frequently remote one) developer. At the same time, it is quite risky and can end up with wasting your time and money. Another disadvantage in working with a freelance developer is a limited number of skills. As it’s quite complicating to find one person to do both design and development with the knowledge of several programming languages. However, you can do your best and find a decent developer. In this case, you can get an excellent app at relatively low price.

Working with a team has some obvious advantages, especially if you are building a complex app. Teams are usually well-equipped and have enough resources to fulfill your app needs. Thus, you will be in contact with the project manager, who will inform you about the progress on a regular basis.

To get such level of service and timely delivery, be ready to higher costs. However, depending on the company size, you can also benefit greatly as small to medium development agencies cost not much compared to freelance developers.

Below you can see the average hourly rate charged by mobile companies worldwide.

Median cost of mobile application development in select regions worldwide in 2015, by platform (in U.S. dollars per hour).

Median cost of mobile application development

This statistic shows the median amount charged by mobile development companies worldwide to develop applications for the three major platforms, as well as cross-platform development, as of 2015. As of that time, Indonesia provided the cheapest mobile development charges of the countries surveyed, able to develop mobile applications for the Windows platform at a rate of 14 U.S. dollars an hour. The growth of mobile development studios in Singapore and Indonesia is linked to smartphone adoption in those countries.

You can match the worldwide hourly rates with the number of hours for each app complexity level and get an approximate price for your app idea.

Based upon the above written, the app price varies as follows:

  • Simple app up to 400 hours (x average hourly rate $50) = $20,000
  • Moderate app 500 – 700 hours (x average hourly rate $100) = $25,000 – 35,000
  • Complex app 800+ hours (x average hourly rate $100) = $40,000 +

You spend endless hours creating that perfect app. You went to the Apple Store and “hit” the publish button and though…. “The downloads is going to explode now!”

But, nothing happened.

Only a few downloads, and a lot of embarrassment for you.

On top of this enormous issue is another problem for your app developers – i.e., monetizing your mobile apps.

You see, monetization is not only science. It is also an art, and today, in this article, I’ll show exactly 15 ways to do it.

So grab a cup of coffee, sit back, and read on 15 ways to monetize your mobile apps:

1. Ad placement.

It sounds obvious, but running ads is the most popular method of monetizing mobile applications.

To get more ROIs from your ad spends, make sure the ads do not look too intrusive and make the ads fit in context (contextual advertising) with the content and theme of your app.

Run ads with those brands, products, or services that complement your business (not compete with yours).

2. Develop universal and easy to read code

You’ll make a good source of income by creating an app that is universal and easy to read (code-wise). These type of base app can later become a highly specialized app. For example, template copyrights can bring a significant amount of profit for the developers is because many companies want to buy ready-made-solutions, as they can get the branded solution quickly and inexpensively.

You can change your base app to the unique needs of your customer.

Customizing the app is also super easy, as you only need to change the front-end design (“White Label Solution.”)

3. Charge people have the ads removed from your apps

While it’s true that many users don’t care if there’s an ad running across the screen, others would pay money to have it removed.

4. Offer in-app purchases

Your app download is most likely free, just like most apps on app store. Most app downloads are free. However, once people start to use your app more, they might be interested in making in-app purchases to improve their experience.

To make in-app purchases easier, Google and Apple offer billing services. However, they don’t have full coverage in the international markets.

For example, people living in Brazil usually don’t use cards (credit cards and scratch cards) so making in-app purchases is not possible for them. They don’t have scratch card printing services in their country, and hence, they cannot get it printed and use it make in-app purchases.

5. Propose a subscription-based service.

You won’t have a stable recurring income from your mobile app until you have monthly recurring revenue business model. Sometimes, there will be good months and occasionally the opposite.

With unstable revenue, taking your business to the next level can be an uphill battle.

However, there’s a solution to it.

You can add subscription-based model which will be more stable and deliver you more predictable income.

Your users only need to submit their bank card details once, and until they cancel it, they’ll continue to get billed, generating recurring income for your business.

6. Keep testing.

If you’re not sure how your app users are using your apps or what’s the best method of monetizing your app, then don’t just leave it to guesswork. Until you have real data, you won’t know for sure. But once you have user data, you can then begin split testing to make big profits down the road. (You can gather user data from Google Analytics.)

7. Make your free app a ‘premium’ app.

If possible, don’t offer a free version of your app. Make sure to keep the cost of the app low to prevent scaring people away, nonetheless, charge a little as download fee.

You’ll also filter out users who aren’t interested in your app. And those who will pay are often the ones who are going to be engaged, responsive, and eventually profitable users.

8. Use SMS marketing.

SMS marketing works similar to email marketing. People hardly even change their phone numbers, and they often forget to unsubscribe.

SMS works wonders because, just like Email, it is highly personal which helps convert users into purchasers.

But you can’t know for sure until you test and see if it genuinely works for you|.

9. Offer your app as a “White label” solution

If you have an incredibly original app, but you lack necessary skills in the sales and marketing departments, consider giving your app as a white label solution. It’s a process of creating a product or service and selling to a company who can brand it as their own.

10. Reactivate dormant users through email and push notifications.

Do not harass users, but make sure to incentivize by reminding what they’re missing out on by sending occasional email and push notification. Maybe, you can offer a small free offer to entice dormant users to become active.

11. Think sponsored content.

Let me tell you a well-kept secret about most apps: even if your app generates over 1 million downloads won’t guarantee you profitability.

Let’s say, you have a $1 product, and only 2% of users convert. To make a good income through apps, you’ll need a lot of downloads.

But, there are other ways to monetize your app. One of my favorite ways is via Sponsored Content.

While your user base may not generate enough income for you, you could probably find a brand willing to pay you a hefty amount of bucks to get their sponsored content in front of your user base.

12. Form partnerships and find sponsorships.

You can also find a partner or a sponsor who have a similar customer base as you do and propose them to cross-promote each other’s apps to other’s email list.

If you don’t have an email list, don’t panic!

You can offer a gift (an ebook, or a discount on your services) for free that your partner’s audience will love. In exchange for this gift, you can ask your partner to mention your brand to their audience and drive their audience towards your call to action (CTA).

13. Data monetisation

Make sure you are aware of the privacy laws and legal proceedings before you try to sell the data collected from the customer.

There are different ways for making money through customer data. One of the ways is to sell the data directly. The other way is to influence non-mobile decisions.

14. Start with a blended model

If you’re not sure what will work best for you, you can opt for a blended model.

You can use several of the tips shared above to monetize your app.

You’ll notice that one tactic outperforms the other.

And when you do, you’ll know for sure which model to repeat for more profits.

15. Start an email list

Display ads, social media, and SEO are all great techniques to monetize your app. But email is where all the profit lies.

If you don’t have an email list, consider offering a free offer (book, for example) in exchange for their email address.

When you build an email list, you can communicate directly with your customers, without having to rely on Google and Facebook.

And, one more thing. People hardly ever change their email address – meaning it can be a sales funnel that can last a lifetime.
